Twitter announced they’re putting on a collared shirt & high heels and heading into the office with Professional Profiles to help creators & businesses clearly show contact info in their profile.
Twitter isn’t just for individuals…
The microblogging company has always been used by leaders to discuss the highs & lows of running their business and write platitudes to fill up their profile.
But as the world has become increasingly transparent, some founders have started to take a new approach to Twitter by building in public.
Essentially this is when a company is open about most of the inner workings of their business ranging from how much a product should cost, what the user experience should look like, and major milestones of monthly recurring revenue.
By building in this way, it creates a tight feedback loop that leads to quickly find product-market fit in a way that hasn’t really been done before. Not only that, but now these companies are building a community on Twitter.
Teams that are crushing this model:
Email platform Superhuman
AI-marketing software Copy.ai
Marketing automation tool Bannerbear
With an engaged audience, setting up a Professional Profile will help expand on the current connections they have made with their users.
… and LinkedIn isn’t just for businesses
But as Twitter moves to highlight businesses, LinkedIn is moving to highlight creators with its new Creator Mode that will highlight an individual’s follower count finally solving the question of 500 followers.. plus how many more?!
So just like Twitter, LinkedIn will now be able to give additional attention to those that have invested most in putting content on their platform.
The pandemic has forced many people to learn about the personal lives of their coworkers and now LinkedIn has become more relaxed. For example, unless you’re an investment banker or financial advisor, it’s not really cool to have a suit & tie in your profile picture.
Some up & coming LinkedIn creators I’ve been following:
Marketing consultant Anna Furmanov
Hilarious sales guy @ Salesloft Tom Boston
Agency coach Tim Kilroy
Pick the one platform your customers use
When you’re in the day-to-day of building a business, you don’t have time to be tweeting 12 times a day while also putting out consistent thought leadership on LinkedIn.
You could just copy and paste the same messages in both places, but then you’re kinda missing the point of specializing.
So just pick one and dive into these new features and I promise the almighty algorithms will reward you.
who's a good example of building in public?
